I can’t believe it has already been six months in this new world. I still think to myself how crazy and utterly off the wall it is that we’re battling (and losing to) a global pandemic in 2020.
Rather than think about the future and the uncertainty that lies ahead, I’m trying to appreciate the fact that I got to embark on some pretty rad adventures literally right before all of this began: mainly a trip to Mexico with my family and one to Costa Rica with my friends (Pura Vida, guys).
Immediately after I returned home from Costa Rica, I got a chance to hit this show too. This is the last time I was in a crowded room, singing at the top of my lungs, jostling for a spot at the bar and taking in live music — quite literally a week before the state of IL went on lockdown.
Maybe we’ll pick up again with life in March 2021 where we left off–we’ll finally celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, see our families on Easter and have the summer (and year) we all thought was coming.
I’ve just gotta say, the next time I set foot in a music venue it’s going to be with a whole new sense of appreciation. Until then, I’ll remember this show: AM Taxi (always one of my favorites) and Flatfoot 56 tearin’ it up at Chop Shop.

Of course I had to attend War on Christmas this year. What I didn’t realize is that the Flatliners were going to blow me away as much as they did.

I started 2019 off right. Went to Metro to see Alkaline Trio on two nights of their four night stand, and was totally reminded what made me fall in love with this band over 15 years ago. Each set was a mix of throw backs as well as new tunes, and the openers, Masked Intruder (on 1/3) and Sincere Engineer (on 1/4) really impressed.

Once again obeying the NY resolution, I ventured out to Riot Fest this year.

Managed to catch the Lawrence Arms during night three of their “War on Christmas” shows. That is to say, I returned from my vacation to Cancun that night and went straight to the Bottom Lounge from O’Hare. Punk rock, right?

I legitimately cannot count the times that I’ve seen this band, but man–it never gets old.
